 Leonard Wren
 |
One of the leading American Impressionists, Leonard Wren paints intimate scenes with grace and eloquence. The subjects in his paintings - swans at rest, ordered gardens, bright riots of wildflowers - lead you to believe that the Tulsa, OK painter spends most of his time peacefully surveying idyllic, nonexistent places. But in fact, it's the everyday world where Wren finds beauty and inspiration.
Like Claude Monet, the Impressionist master he emulates, Leonard's style and choices of subjects allow the viewer to relate to the paintings. Rather than rendering a detailed depiction of a scene, his loose interpretive brushwork leaves the detail to be interpreted by the individual viewer, thus creating a familiarity to his work. His paintings invite the viewer to participate in the narrative; they are quiet intimate moments, which provide relief from the complexities of life. "If an artist truly sees the color of nature and feels its energy then they are an Impressionist." |
